Civil/Uncivil: The Art of Leo Twiggs

 

A gallery reception honoring Rhodes and Dr. Leo Twiggs will be hold on April 8 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

This exhibit features artistic interpretations of the impact that the Civil War had on American Society in the late 19th and 20th century.  Orangeburg native Dr. Leo Twiggs documents the continuum from the Civil War to the civil rights movement, providing a different perspective on the impact on Southern society of slavery.

A gallery reception in honor of Twiggs and Rick Rhodes will be on April 8 from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

ASID Symphony Designer Showhouse

Civil War Sesquicentennial Re-enactment

The National Park Service presents Confederate and civilian reenactors who will be on site providing living history programs for visitors.

Civil War Sesquicentennial Re-Enactment

The National Park Service presents Confederate reenactors representing units stationed at the fort and on Sullivan’s Island at this time in April 1861.  They will be camped on site presenting living history programs to visitors.

Civil War Sesquicentennial Re-enactment

On the afternoon of April 14, 1861, the US garrison surrendered and left the fort. Then Company B, South Carolina Artillery Battalion and the Palmetto Guard, an infantry company moved into the fort. The National Park Service presents CS reenactors representing these units who will garrison the fort offering living history programs to visitors on each tour boat.

Civil War Sesquicentennial Re-Enactment

The National Park Service presents Union reenactors who will portray Companies E & H, 1st US Artillery Regiment. This also includes members of the regimental band. Living history programs will be offered to visitors arriving on each tour boat.

Dogmore Stew Festival

Lowcountry Animal Rescue hosts its Dogmore Stew Festival which features frogmore stew, hors d’oeuvres and desserts, a silent auction, raffle tickets, a pet fashion show, demonstrations, and more.  This is a fun-filled event forthe entire family including 4 legged friends.  Admission to gardens included in ticket.  Call 843-343-8063 for tickets and information.

Na Fidléirí Benefit Concert

Enjoy music by the group that has been called the nations finest, most unique Celtic fiddling ensemble for young fiddlers.  Na Fidléirí, founded and directed by Mary Taylor, will perform to support academic programs in Charleston’s inner-city schools.

Family Circle Cup

Every spring, the Family Circle Tennis Center serves as a backdrop to one of the richest and most traditional events in women’s professional tennis.  Over 90 players of WTA compete for a piece of the $721,000 purse at the Family Circle Cup each year. 

This WTA Tour Premier Event has a roster of past champions that include some of the biggest names in the history of women’s tennis including Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin, Steffi Graf, Gabriela Sabatini, Martina Hingis, Jennifer Capriati, Venus Williams, Justine Henin, and Serena Williams.
